Bloodlines #5

Expected publication: July 29th, 2014 by Razorbill

Young Adult Paranormal Romance | Urban Fantasy

Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives.

In The Fiery Heart, Sydney risked everything to follow her gut, walking a dangerous line to keep her feelings hidden from the Alchemists.

Now in the aftermath of an event that ripped their world apart, Sydney and Adrian struggle to pick up the pieces and find their way back to each other. But first, they have to survive.

For Sydney, trapped and surrounded by adversaries, life becomes a daily struggle to hold on to her identity and the memories of those she loves. Meanwhile, Adrian clings to hope in the face of those who tell him Sydney is a lost cause, but the battle proves daunting as old demons and new temptations begin to seize hold of him. . . .

Their worst fears now a chilling reality, Sydney and Adrian face their darkest hour in this heart-pounding fifth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where all bets are off.

Why I’m waiting:

There are no words. Having just read

The Fiery Heart

—twice—and rereading the entire

VA

and Bloodlines series, I’m living on a Mead high. Both series are favorites of mine, but I must say that

Bloodlines

is going to be even better than

Vampire Academy

. I was gutted with

The Fiery Heart

‘s ending. Yes, it’s a cliffhanger, but it’s so worth the read. As star-crossed lovers in a way that Rose and Dimitri were not, Sydrian give me this welling hope that they’ll change worlds. I have no doubt they’ll overcome what has befallen them. I just can’t wait to read it. I’m even itching to return to fan fiction days and write it. July can’t come fast enough.

On a side note … Besides the VA movie, I’m also waiting for the Bloodlines covers to be redone. Can’t the outside match the awesomeness of the inside of these books? Anyone else feel the same?

A sneak peek inside Alabaster Nights

Keller shoved off the bar and strode toward the stage, an invisible bond tethering his chest to the singer. Her voice swirled around him, wrapping him in a cocoon made of hunger, desire, and need. A waitress walked by, her drink tray held high over the crowd. Keller reached up and deposited his untouched beverage. Fake blood would never soothe his cravings. For that matter, no blood, human or animal, had ever taken the edge off. He had little doubt that all of that was about to change.

Eyes that had been full of happiness, as if singing was the only thing that kept her alive, narrowed to slits so thin he could no longer make out their color.

She knew.

He’d thought she was human. Perhaps not. A human would never be able to tell he was a night creature. This new development had Keller even more intrigued.

“Hey, buddy, Watch out.”

Keller kept his fangs hidden, briefly looked away from the singer, and reminded himself not to kill the man wearing a ridiculously oversized hat and an even larger belt buckle who was currently blocking his path.

Reaching out, Keller gripped the man’s shoulder, careful not to squeeze hard enough to break his bones. “Move.” One word, infused with the power of persuasion.

The man blinked and rushed off the dance floor. Keller refocused his attention back to his … His what? He hesitated to use the word mate, but everything inside him screamed that’s exactly who this woman was.

“Big brother. You made it.”

Keller clenched his jaw and fought the tension in his body that wanted nothing more than to pounce on the singer and make her his. Once he felt even a modicum of control, he turned and offered Sage a genuine smile. His sister. Biological or not did not matter.

“Of course I made it.” He said. “You know I can’t deny you anything.” He pulled on Sage’s braid. “Pink?”

Sage hugged him tight. The singer continued to sing. He squelched the urge to turn and watch.

“This week, anyway. Eventually my hair will probably fall out from all this dying.” Sage shrugged. “That’s what wigs are for. Just ask Dolly Parton.”

“Dolly who?”

“Never mind,” Sage said, laughing.

Sage grabbed his hand and guided him back to the bar.

Keller positioned himself so he could see the stage as well as Sage. Sage looked good. Almost peaceful. Almost. A vampire could never truly find peace. Not until the end came, and Keller wondered if far worse awaited on the other side. That depended on which myth one chose to believe.

“So?”

“So, what?” His sister was up to something. Her eyes sparkled. He couldn’t remember the last time he had seen her this happy. Maybe never.

“Do you like her?”

Every muscle in his body stiffened. No. He couldn’t be so transparent that Sage had picked up on his fixation. “Do I like who?” His words were stilted. He cleared his throat.

She swept her arm in a circle. “This place? I’m going to buy it,” she said, bouncing on the balls of her feet.

Keller angled his head. Buying meant staying, didn’t it? “You’re going to buy a pub?”

Sage shoved him playfully. “You’re not in Ireland, Keller. This is Nashville and this pub is called a honkytonk.”

“I’ll try to remember that.”

“But, yes,” she said with a smile. “To answer your question, I am going to buy it. Isn’t it great? We’re going to call it Wolfie’s.”

The song ended and the singer stepped down from the stage. Keller tracked her movements as every nerve in his body strained, begging him to act.

Keller cracked his neck. The motion did little to ease his headache. “We? Will I approve of this partner?” He pictured someone taking advantage of Sage’s soft heart. Keller held his words, but he would not allow Sage to buy this place until Keller met her partner and agreed with the terms. Sage was family and her safety trumped her happiness.

The singer marched through the crowd. Her heart beat in time with her footsteps as her boots pounded against the wood floor. Something, probably a knife, glinted under the hem of her skirt. Why the weapon? Her gaze never left his. Keller wore a lazy smile and waited.

Sage jabbed him in the ribs with her elbow. “I hope so, bro. She’s awesome.”

He hadn’t considered that Sage’s partner could be a woman. A thought crept in. Keller eased off the bar and straightened his suit jacket. “I look forward to meeting her.”

Deep red hair bounced as the singer planted her feet and crossed her arms over her chest. She smiled at Sage before she turned to him. The smile disappeared as her lips flattened into a thin line.

Keller breathed deeply—something he rarely did—and his heart, along with another vital organ, jerked to attention.

“Perfect timing,” Sage said. “Keller, I’d like you to meet my partner, and best friend, Josephine Hawk. Josie, this is my brother, Keller.”

The redhead licked her lips and swept her gaze from his head to his feet and back up.

Keller could not hear over the roar in his ears. Yes. Josephine Hawk was indeed the one he had been waiting for.

Raina’s pick this week:

Born of Fury
by Sherrilyn Kenyon
The League Gen 1 #6

Expected publication: June 1st, 2014 by St. Martin’s Press

Genre: Paranormal Romance | Science Fiction

The war is on…

Counted among the fiercest Andarion warriors ever born, Hauk is one of the five founding members of the Sentella- an organization that has declared war on the League that rules the Ichidian universe with an iron fist and terrifies it with an army of well-trained assassins. Hauk’s enemies are legion, but he fears nothing and no one. He will do whatever it takes to survive and protect his Sentella brethren.

Sumi Antaxas is one of the best assassins the League has ever trained. In her world, failure is not an option and she has never met a target she couldn’t execute. So when she’s assigned Hauk, she believes it’ll be a quick and easy mission.

But nothing is ever as simple as it seems, and Hauk is far better trained and skilled than his dossier shows. More than that, as she pursues him, she stumbles upon the key that will bring down not only Hauk, but the entire Sentella organization.

In the race to report her information, she is overtaken by enemies out to end her as effectively as she intends to end Hauk. Now her only key to survival is the one man she’s been sent to kill. And Hauk doesn’t trust her at all.

The only question is, will he help her to live… or send her to her grave

Why I’m waiting:

I’ve just finished the first five books in the series, and holy alien babies, were they fantastic! Each book has gotten better than the last. I love that, while each book focuses on a romantic pair, all the couples from the previous books make vital appearances in the next, adding more depth to this brotherhood of assassins and criminals while building on the subtle series arc that reached its pinnacle in the last two books. I cannot wait for the Sentella to scatter the League’s remains across the universe.

And I’ve been waiting so long for Hauk’s story, since book one actually. I’m so damn giddy for it, I’m tap dancing. Born of Fury will finally reveal what hurt the hulking Hauk so much to dislike women, and he will, hopefully, meet his match.

If you’re a fan of dark, action-packed paranormal romance, a little bit of science fiction, and some steamy sex but have yet to start The League Gen 1 series, you must! It’s one of my favs.

A sneak peek into Catch

Prologue

“This is her?” I ask, as I look down at the picture, smoothing a thumb over the woman’s face. She has flaming red hair, green eyes, and perfect white teeth. She’s beautiful, and looks nothing like any of the other assignments I’ve ever had.

It’s a shame that she has to die.

The middleman nods. He is the one who has brought me all of my assignments over the years, and I still don’t know his name. He has silver hair with a beard to match, and deep brown eyes framed with thick crow’s feet. The fedora he always wears is turned slightly to the side, and his leather coat ends at his knees. He’s been Timer’s middleman for a very long time, and I’m convinced he eats nails for breakfast.

“You are to drop her off at the address on the back of the picture. They will contact you when it is time to carry out the hit,” middleman says in his smoker’s voice.

I narrow my eyes in a way that would normally intimidate a person, but the middleman seemed completely unfazed, his hard stare never faltering from mine. “This is different. I’ve never been told to kidnap, only kill.”

“I don’t ask questions. I only bring the assignments,” he says with finality, so I stop asking questions.

“Fine, but I need you to pass a message on to Timer for me.” When the middleman nods I continue. “This is the last one. I’m done.”

His chuckle lacks humor. “He’s paying you big for this one. You’re his best man. When that cash hits your hand we’ll see if you still want to walk away.”

I felt the muscle flex in my jaw. The last thing this guy wants to do is piss me off.

“Just give Timer the message,” I growl as I spin on my heel.

When I reach the metal door of the warehouse he grunts, and I turn to face him.

“Hey, don’t you want to know why this one needs to die?” he asks through the empty space between us.

I look up at the metal rafters in the warehouse as I think about what he just said. I always want to know what my assignments do that puts them in Timer’s path. It was part of my agreement with Timer. But with this one, there’s something different, something’s off.

“No. It’s my last one. I don’t want to know,” I reply.

“Very well…and Catch, this is one of the most important hits ever assigned, if not the most important. Timer’s getting a lot of money for this hit. Don’t screw it up.”

When the fuck have I ever screwed up?

It was on the tip of my tongue to say, but I just nod before stepping out into the cold night and slamming the metal door behind me.

Buzz Event {Excerpts & Giveaways}—The Billionaire Banker by Georgia Le Carre

The Billionaire Banker
by Georgia Le Carre
The Billionaire Banker  #1

Publication: November 1st, 2013

Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance | Erotic Romance

Until she came … all that he wanted … he owned.

When Lana Bloom learns the devastating news that her mother is dying, she is faced with a terrible dilemma. The one thing that can save her is the one thing she does not have. For young and innocent Lana, the unthinkable becomes her only choice.

But when she walks through the door of that exclusive restaurant she has no idea of the seismic shift her life is about to take, for the highest bidder will not be the rich man she has accompanied. Fate drops her at the feet of the deeply mysterious and dazzlingly gorgeous American banker, Blake Law Barrington. Throbbing with raw masculinity and arrogance, this is a man who owns all that he pursues.

And now he wants her.

Available on:

Meet Blake Law Barrington!

What Blake thought and experienced when he saw Lana being mauled by the despicable Rupert Lothian …

I should have known then.

Who was I kidding? Just sex? With her? That would never be enough.

This girl was the siren, the temptress that my father had warned me about. The one that had been specially chosen to bring me to my knees. But at that moment I was the proverbial moth flying helplessly towards the flame. I guess, I just wanted her light, more than I wanted anything else…

The brute had her pinned against a wall, his big body completely hiding her from my view. Must have only been minutes, but it was like a lifetime watching that broad back and thick neck. I had to fight the instinct to go over. Break them up. But I am a strategist, a man who knows when to pounce, how to exploit an opportunity. Not yet. Soon. Lose a battle to win the war.

A woman came and wrapped herself around me. She laid her perfectly manicured red fingernails on the lapels of my jacket and smiled slyly. I glanced down at her and shuddered. I hate it when women I don’t fancy throw themselves at me. At that precise moment Lothian moved his thick body away and I saw Lana. Flattened against the wall, her face white, mascara streaking down her face, and her lips already beginning to swell.

Our eyes met.

Fuck me, I looked into her shocked, defenceless eyes, and I did not feel lust! I did not want to take and use and discard as I had done with all the others. The only thing I registered in my body was the unfamiliar need to protect. Not myself but her. That same sensation I had experience once a long time ago as a young boy, when I had come across an injured baby bird that had fallen out of its nest. I had scooped it in my cupped hands and warmed it inside my jacket. After it died that evening I never again experienced that sensation. Until now.

Stunned by my own reaction I watched as she ran out of the room on those ridiculously high shoes of hers. And the dirty looks she got. You should have seen them. You’d have thought she stank of their bullshit. I despised my kind then.

In the corridor I saw her lurch unsteadily towards the powder room.

After a few minutes I made my excuses and went to wait for her in the corridor. What the fuck was I doing? But the rational, thinking Blake had gone numb. And another part, a secret part of me that I never let out, that I refused to even acknowledge, had come out and taken over. I crossed my arms and lounged against the wall.

When she came out, I almost did not recognise her. Underneath the layer of badly applied make-up she had the face of a schoolgirl. Hell, she better not be under-aged. That would be all my plans down the toilet. I straightened and waited for her to come up to me. She was no longer crying. Her head was held high and those indescribably turquoise eyes were proud and flashing, and she would have walked right past me too, if I had not raised a detaining finger.

An additional sneak peek inside The Billionaire Banker

Rupert directs his astonished, vicious eyes at Lana’s. ‘You offered yourself to him too?’ His eyes move derisively, hatefully over her.

Lana cringes with shame.

‘Does he know how much you charge?’

‘Do you doubt I will be able to afford her?’ Blake asks coldly.

Rupert shrivels the way a leech that has had salt thrown on it does. ‘This is why you invited me here, isn’t it?’

‘Yes.’

‘What a joke!’ he taunts, but his jibe lacks any real bite. ‘The great Barrington can’t find his own whore. He has to steal mine.’

‘I didn’t steal her,’ Blake notes reasonably. ‘I just offered to pay more.’

Rupert’s eyes bulge, bug-like. ‘She’s just a cheap bloody tart. I’ve just finger-fucked her out there,’ he lies maliciously, jerking his dandruff-laden head in the direction of the door.

Lana feels Blake’s hand tighten around her waist. ‘Consider it an unearned freebie, then,’ he says quietly, but there is warning in the calm words. A warning that is not lost on Rupert. The air becomes tight with tension. Lana looks from one man to the other. It is like watching two lions fighting for supremacy. But her body knows which lion she wants to win this fight.

Rupert shrugs. He knows he’d be a fool to go against a Barrington. He has much to lose. ‘If you think I’m going to fight over her you’re mistaken. Have her.’

He turns on his heel and leaves.

Blake lets go of Lana. She realizes she is trembling. She leans against the desk, hating herself, but unable to stop—nothing is more important than the money—she asks, ‘Did you…did you mean it about the money?’
